Edgar SmithEdgar SmithEdgar C. Smith, 97, of Vermont died at 7:01 p.m. March 21, 2007, at Heritage Manor in Beardstown.
He was born May 11, 1909, in Astoria, a son of Jonathon and Cora Bair Smith. He married Lucille Amerine on July 26, 1942. She died May 12, 1993. He later married Edna M. Walton on Aug. 23, 1995. She also is deceased.
He also was preceded in death by four brothers and five sisters.
Surviving are several nieces and nephews.
He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II.
He was the purchasing agent for Astoria Fibersteel Co., retiring in 1972.
He was a member of Vermont Lodge 116 AF & AM, Vermont Legion Post 26 and Vermont Christian Church.
Services were held Monday at his church with Tim Gilliland officiating. A Masonic service also was held. Burial was in Vermont Cemetery with military rites accorded.
Memorials may be made to Vermont Christian Church, Vermont American Legion or Vermont Masonic Lodge.
