Erma SchieferdeckerErma Elizabeth Schieferdecker, 98, of Rushville died at 12:15 p.m. Saturday, April 15, 2006, at her home.

She was born Oct. 17, 1907, in Huntsville, a daughter of Perry E. and Maude E. Black Payne. She married Roy Henry Schieferdecker on July 2, 1929, in Lansing, Mich. He died March 6, 1991.

Also preceding her in death were three brothers, Ralph, Russell and Elmer; and two sisters, Emma and Edna.

Surviving are one son, Don L. (and Anna Marie) of Rushville; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

She was a 75-year member of the Order of Eastern Star, and a member of First United Methodist Church of Rushville. She also was a member of the Schuyler American Legion Auxiliary Unit #4 and the Illinois Sheriff's Association and was active in many community affairs.

She served as election judge in Schuyler County for 50 years before retiring. She also served as sheriff of Schuyler County from September 1942 to November 1945 after her husband Roy was elected sheriff in 1942 and was then called to serve in the Navy during World War II. She worked in the secretary's office at the Schuyler County Fair for 45 years, and worked full-time as a cook at the Rushville Junior High School cafeteria for over 25 years.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Worthington Funeral Home with David Haney officiating. Burial will be in Rushville City Cemetery.
