Vera Sullivan

Vera M. Sullivan, 93, of Peoria died at 7:25 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 15, 2005, at her residence.

She was born Feb. 11, 1912, in Table Grove, a daughter of John S. and Rhoda P. Chenoweth Westlake. She married Michael J. Sullivan in July 1936, in East St. Louis. He died Dec. 5, 1954.

She also was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters.

Surviving are one son, Michael (and Ingrid) of Peoria; two brothers, Glen (and Genevie) Westlake of Bader and Carl (and Edmonia) Westlake of Collinsville; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

She worked in the literature section at Caterpillar Inc. for 22 years, retiring in 1981.

The first completely blind female employee for Caterpillar, she was a member of the Jacksonville School for the Blind, Illinois Federation for the Blind and the Peoria Area Blind People's Center, where she was a former officer.

She also was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Peoria.

Services were Monday at Wright & Salmon Mortuary with Rev. Thomas Szydlik officiating. Burial was in Mount Carmel Cemetery in Belleville.

Memorials may be made to the Peoria Area Blind People's Center.
