Turner E. Stewart, 75, of Lewistown died at 5:29 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2005, at Graham Hospital in Canton.

He was born Jan. 7, 1930, in Smithfield, a son of William M. and June E. Freeman Stewart. He married Betty Ann Trone on Sept. 2, 1951, in Table Grove. She survives.

Also surviving are three sons, William of Seal Beach, Calif., Joseph (and Sherry) of Glasford and James (and Lucinda) of Kansas City, Mo.; two grandchildren, two step-grandchildren; and two sisters, Crystal Gibboney of Macomb and Georgialee (and James) Wetter of LaHarpe.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Freeman; two half brothers, Cleao and Murel Stewart; and one half sister, Ialeen Moore.

He served in the Army during the Korean War.

He worked at Caterpillar Inc. in East Peoria for 32 years, retiring in 1978. He was a member of United Auto Workers Local 974 and the National Rifle Association.

He was of the Christian faith.

Services were Saturday at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria with Damien Spikereit officiating. Burial was in Bader Cemetery, where military honors were conducted by Ipava American Legion Post 17.
