HARVEY W. “WOOD” SKILES

Harvey W. "Wood" Skiles, 89, of Browning died at 7:25 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 11, 2004, at Culbertson Memorial Hospital in Rushville.

He was born Nov. 14, 1914, in Browning Township, Schuyler County, a son of William Henry and Elsie Ellen Belville Skiles.

Surviving is one sister, Rosella (and Paul) Piper of Monmouth and one brother, Virgil Skiles.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Olive Baker and Helen Skiles.
A World War II Army Air Forces veteran, he served in the 43rd Mobile Repair and Reclamation Squadron, 9th Air Force.

He was a farmer. He attended Ridgeville Church, then Bader Christian Church.

Services were held Friday at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria with Shane Baker officiating. Burial was in Ridgeville Cemetery, where military rites were conducted by Astoria American Legion Post 25.

Memorials may be made to Cass-Schuyler Hospice or the American Cancer Society.
