Judy Smith

Judy Kay Smith, 63, of Browning died at 4:45 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 24, 2003, at her home.

She was born Aug. 6, 1940, in Beardstown, the daughter of Dr. Leslie E. and Viola A. Huston Johnson. She married Byron Gregerson in 1959. She later married Russell Smith on April 13, 1979, in Marinette, Wis. He survives.

Also surviving are her mother, Viola Sargent of Beardstown; one son, Lance (and Nikki) Gregerson of Browning; one daughter, Leslie (and Michael) Bowman of Dallas, Ga.; one stepson, Ralph (and Ramona) Smith of Las Vegas; one stepdaughter Elke (and Michael) Carter of Henderson, Nev.; one brother, Larry (and Ann) Johnson of San Antonio; one stepbrother, Jim (and Sherri) Sargent of Highland; one stepsister, Sara (and Robert) Jewison of Huntley; four grandchildren; and eight step-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her father and one infant son.

A graduate of Jacksonville School of Practical Nursing, she was a licensed practical nurse at Culbertson Memorial Hospital in Rushville for 8 1/2 years, Western Illinois Correction Facility in Mount Sterling for seven years and Beardstown Clinic for five years. She previously was an account clerk at Red Owl Food Stores, Marinette County Public Health Department and Marinette Clerk of Courts.

She was a member of St. Rose Catholic Church in Rushville. She also was a member of several Morgan horse associations.

Services were held Saturday at Wood-Roby Funeral Chapel in Rushville with Rev. Robert Reynolds officiating. Burial was in Rushville City Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Judy Kay Smith Memorial Fund, in care of First National Bank of Beardstown.
