Roy "Alvin" Stoehr, 85, of Green Valley died at 4:25 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 31, 2002, at Mardell Manor.

He was born Aug. 21, 1917, in Dillon Township, rural Delavan, a son of Edward and Susan Vale Stoehr. He married Gertrude Underwood in 1935. He later married Corrine Burlingame Darling on June 29, 1946, in Pekin. She died April 20, 1992.

He also was preceded in death by one daughter, Kay Stoehr; two brothers; and three grandchildren.

Surviving are four sons, Joe (and Vivian) Stoehr and David Stoehr, both of Green Valley, Charles (and Angela) Darling of Pekin and Larry (and Penny) Stoehr of Ipava; three daughters, Donna (and Darrell) Henry of Dahinda, and Sally (and James) Hasty and Alvina Dean, both of Manito; one sister, Eileen (and James) Bailey of Albuquerque, N.M.; 30 grandchildren; 73 great-grandchildren; and 12 great-great-grandchildren.

A World War II Army veteran, he was a 52-year member of Delavan American Legion Post 382.

He farmed in the Green Valley and Delavan areas all his life. He also served as Malone Township Road Commissioner for 43 years.

He attended Green Valley United Methodist Church.

Services were held Monday at David Mortuary in Delavan with Rev. Kim Ruckman officiating. Burial was in Green Valley Cemetery, where military rites were accorded by his American Legion post.
