LESTER R. SHAFER

Lester R. Shafer, 91, of Cloverdale, Ohio, died at 10:02 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 5, 2000, at Paradise Oaks Quality Care Nursing Home in Cloverdale.

He was born April 26, 1909, in Paulding County, Ohio, a son of Lloyd C. and Mary Gillispie Shafer. He married Phyllis Schmidt on Nov. 17, 1946. She survives.

Also surviving are one son, Hollis (and Cindy) of Astoria; one daughter, Suzann (and Stan) Bauman of Lima, Ohio; three sisters, Anna Mary Etter of Dupont, Ohio, Edith Sword of Weslaco, Texas, and Edna Place of Melrose, Ohio; one brother, Russel of Fort Wayne, Ind.; and four grandchildren.

One brother and two sisters preceded him in death.

He was a World War II Army veteran and a retired farmer.

Services were held Saturday at Dupont Church of the Brethren in Dupont with Rev. Terry Porter officiating. Burial was in Monroe Cemetery in Continental, where military rites were accorded. Heitmeyer Funeral Home in Continental, Ohio, was in charge of arrangements.
