VeteranHarley Stambaugh

Harley Stambaugh, 90, of Rushville, formerly of Rockford, died at 3:45 a.m. Wednesday, July 28, 1999, at Snyder’s Vaughn-Haven Nursing Home.

He was born July 12, 1909, near Browning, a son of Charles and Lavina Painter Stambaugh. He married Ruth Tarpley on Nov. 11, 1997. She died Aug. 21, 1992.

He was also preceded in death by six brothers and six sisters.

Surviving are numerous nieces and nephews.

He worked for Goff Manufacturing in Rockford for many years before retiring.

A World War II Army veteran, he served in the Normandy, Northern France, Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe campaigns.

Services were held Friday at Worthington Funeral Home with Rev. Damien Spikereit officiating. Burial was in Astoria Cemetery, where military rites will be accorded by Astoria American Legion Post 25.

Memorials may be made to American Legion Post 25 or Snyder’s Vaughn-Haven Nursing Home.
