GILES “JIM” SHILLING

Giles “Jim” Shilling, 76, of Havana, died at 4 p.m. Friday, Jan. 15, 1999, at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.

He was born Feb. 6, 1922, in Browning, a son of Forest and Coyle Woodard Shilling. He married Ila Smith on July 27, 1940, in Palmyra, Mo.

Surviving are four daughters, Priscilla Weber of Browning, Judy Johnson of Lewistown, Kim Taylor of Winchester and Valarie Martin of Rantoul; two sons, Kenneth of Havana and Gil of Pekin; two brothers, Jack of Peoria and Jay of Havana; two sisters, Jean Richardson of Lewistown and Evelyn Madson of Havana; 12 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Two sisters preceded him in death.

A World War II Army veteran, he was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was a self-employed cabinetmaker and a member of Carpenters Local 1972 in Pekin.

Graveside services were held this afternoon at Laurel Hill Cemetery with Rev. Warren Hughes officiating. Arrangements were by Hurley Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to Havana VFW Flag Memorial Fund at Laurel Hill Cemetery.
