Paul R. Shaffer, 96, of Vermont, died at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 5, 1998, at Culbertson Memorial Hospital in Rushville.
He was born March 17, 1902, in Summum, a son of Solomon and Sarah Trone Shaffer.
Surviving are several nieces and nephews.
Four brothers and four sisters preceded him in death.
He was a member of a Masonic lodge in California for more than 50 years. He worked at International Harvester Co. in Canton for 47 years.
Graveside services were held Tuesday at Woodland Cemetery in Astoria with Rev. Tim Gilliland officiating. Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria was in charge of arrangements.
Memorials may be made to Vermont Rescue Squad.
