MAYME F. (WHISMAN) STOCKHAM SOUTHWOOD

Mayme Southwood

Mayme F. Southwood, 81, of Canton, formerly of Lewistown, died at 12:45 a.m. Friday, Jan. 23, 1998, at her residence.

She was born March 20, 1916, in Canton, a daughter of William and Ethel Vorhees Whisman. She married John W. “Cecil” Stockham in Glasford in 1948. He died Oct. 16, 1976. She later married Hubert Southwood on Dec. 24, 1981, in Lewistown. He died May 29, 1993. She was also preceded in death by two stepsons; three sisters; and two brothers.

She is survived by one foster daughter, Debbie Simms of Clinton, Iowa; four stepsons, Richard Southwood of Pekin, Gerald Southwood of Lewistown, Gary Southwood of Canton and Walter Stockham of Mt. Home, Ark.; five stepdaughters, Judy DeMoss of Bernadotte, JoAnn Shores of Canton, Ruth Henderson of Minier, Dixie Guethe of Show Low, Ariz., and Cleta Johnson of Bartonville; one sister, Margurite Swisher of Topeka; and one niece, Coke M. Trendle, who she raised, of Shattuck, Okla.

She was a member of East Side Church of the Nazarene in Canton.

Services were held Saturdat at the Henry Memorial Home in Lewistown with Rev. James Brown officiating. Burial was in the Summum Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to either Spoon River Hospice of Graham Hospital or the East Side Church of the Nazarene, both in Canton.
