William K. Spink, 78, of East Alton, died at 7:48 a.m. Monday, Oct. 13, 1997, at V.I.P. Manor Nursing Home in Wood River.

He was born Nov. 20, 1918, in Havana, the son of Ray and Olga Hugg Spink. He married Ethel Abernathy on Aug. 5, 1942, in Palmyra, Mo. She survives.

Also surviving are one daughter and son-in-law, Carole and James Bailey of Indianapolis, Ind.; three grandchildren, Anita Bailey, Jennifer Bailey and Matthew Bailey; and one brother, Richard Spink of Idaho.

One daughter, Gaye Little, and one sister, Fay Walter, preceded him in death.

A World War II Air Force veteran, he worked in the physical plant department of SIU for 20 years, retiring in 1979.

Memorial services were held Thursday, Oct. 16, at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses with Jerry Firmani officiating. Burial was in Rose Lawn Memorial Gardens in Bethalto.

Memorials may be made to Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, where he served as an elder.
