Mary Ellen Slayton, 76, of Pittsfield, formerly of Macomb, died Wednesday, May 14, 1997, at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.
She was born Jan. 28, 1921, in Table Grove, a daughter of Aubrey and Gladys Nelson Clanin. She married Clifford Slayton on Dec. 20, 1945, in Ipava. He survives.
Also surviving are one daughter, Sue Wolf of Champaign; three sons, John Slayton of Springfield, Paul Slayton of Bedford, Pa., and Bill Slayton of Belgium; two brothers, Bill Clanin of Macomb and Bob Clanin of Haines City, Fla.; one sister, Marian Edsall of Orlando, Fla.; and six grandchildren.
She graduated from Graham Hospital School of Nursing in Canton in 1942. She was a member of the school’s Alumni association. She was a registered nurse and a member of the Illinois Nursing Association.
A memorial service was held Friday at First Christian Church in Pittsfield with burial to be at a later date. Arrangements were by Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in Pittsfield.
