Curtis Shawgo

Curtis W. Shawgo, 84, formerly of Peoria, died at 11:50 a.m. Friday, Nov. 8, 1996, at Apostolic Christian Home in Eureka, where he lived the past 1½ years.

He was born March 13, 1912, in Ipava, a son of Peter E. and Artha A. Weber Shawgo. He married Verla A. Thomson on Jan. 7, 1933, in Kahoka, Mo. She died Jan. 3, 1986, in Peoria. One infant son, three sisters and two brothers also preceded him in death.

Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Harold (Patricia) Powers of Peoria and Mrs. Dan (Susan) Male of Sparland; one sister, Fern Smith of Manito; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

He worked at Keystone Steel and Wire Co. for 38 years, retiring in 1974 as an electrical maintenance supervisor. He was a member of Keystone Retirees Club. He was a member of Grace Presbyterian Church. He was a member and past master of Illinois Masonic Lodge 263, AF&AM. HE was a member of Scottish Rite Bodies, Valley of Peoria, where he was a member of the Past Masters Club, past member of Rose Croix and received the Meritorious Service Award. He was a member of Mohammed Temple, Shrine and its Drammads. He was a member of Electra Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star.

Funeral services were held Monday morning at Wilton Mortuary in Peoria with Rev. Ben C. Johnston officiating. Masonic services were held Sunday afternoon. Graveside services were held Monday afternoon at Ipava Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Heiterland Unit at Apostolic Christian Home in Eureka or the Alzheimer’s Association, Central Illinois Chapter.
