Robert Strode

Robert Harold Strode, 84, of Cuba, died at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 9, 1996, at his home.

He was born Nov. 17, 1911, in Cuba, a son of John F. and Mary Ellen McAdams Strode. He married Cora Irene Sinnett on June 30, 1937, in Cuba. She survives.

Also surviving are two sons, Richard Strode of Ipava and Larry Strode of Fairview; two daughters, Carolyn Schnarr of Cuba and Mrs. Earl (Susan) Clark of Urbana, Ohio; 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; one brother, Emory Strode of Sandwich; and one sister, Mrs. Bud (Wilma) Harper of Ellisville.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one grandson, two great-grandsons, four brothers and four sisters.

He began working in underground mines at age 12. He retired on June 30, 1972 from the former International Harvester plant at Canton after 38 years and was a member of the Navistar U.A.W. Retiree’s Club. He was active in the Cuba community and was a coach for 15 years in the little league baseball program in Cuba. He was also a Watkins dealer and ran a saw sharpening business at his home for many years.

Funeral services were held Saturday at Henry Memorial Home in Cuba with Rev. Rodney Ruburg officiating. Burial was in Cuba Cemetery.
