Russell Spillers

Russell R. Spillers, 86, of Macomb, died at 8:40 p.m. Sunday, July 16, 1995, at Heartland Nursing Center in Macomb.

He was born May 2, 1909, in Frederick, a son of Warren and Ada Rebman Spillers. He married Hazel L. Daniel on Feb. 24, 1929, in Rushville. She died May 12, 1987. He also was preceded in death by one daughter, Barbara Rougvie, and three brothers.

Surviving are one daughter, E. Sue Sears of Adair; four grandsons; and three great-grandchildren.

He worked for A&P in Quincy, Carthage, Bushnell and Macomb. He then owned and operated Spillers Market on East Jackson from 1945 to 1976. He attended Illinois College in Jacksonville. He was a past president of the Macomb Chamber of Commerce. He was a member of Macomb Elks Lodge 1009 and was a former member of Western’s Leatherneck Club and Macomb Country Club. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Macomb.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Sargent-Worthington Funeral Home in Macomb with Rev. Kenneth Mortonson officiating. Friends may call after 3 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home; there will be no formal visitation. Burial will be in Rushville City Cemetery.
