Hildreth L. Strode, 87, of the Washington Christian Village for the past 2 months and formerly of Smithfield, died at 7:15 a.m. Sunday, May 21, 1995, at the village.
She was born Oct. 12, 1907 at Ray, a daughter of James Orville and Mary Rebecca Trone Grove. She married William Glenn Strode on Aug. 15, 1925 at Lewistown. He died April 5, 1985. She was also preceded in death by one infant son, two brothers and one sister.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. George (Mary Leann) Staley of Edwards and Mrs. James (Gwendolyn) “Cookie” Marshall of Washington; one brother, Glenn Dale Grove of Kewanee; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
She was a member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Washington and a former member of the Brock United Methodist Church in Smithfield. She was a former member of the Smithfield Neighborly Circle.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Brock United Methodist Church with Rev. Dani Jo Ninke-Greaver and Rev. Charlian Renner officiating. Burial will be in Howard Cemetery at rural Smithfield. Visitation will be held this evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at Henry Memorial Home in Cuba.
Memorials may be made to her church, the Washington Rescue Squad or Brock United Methodist Church.
