H. Foster Sears, 79, of Macomb, formerly of Table Grove, Vermont and Lewistown, died at 2:10 a.m. Friday, March 10, 1995, in Lantana, Fla.

He was born Aug. 9, 1915, in Table Grove, the son of Earl and Verna Foster Sears. He married Marguerite Thompson on Aug. 16, 1940, in Macomb. She survives.

Also surviving are one son, David Sears of Libertyville; one daughter, Sally Sallee of Macomb; one sister, Golda Webber of Amarillo, Texas; and four grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one sister.

He attended Western Illinois University, the University of Illinois, the University of Alabama and John Marshall Law School. He played football in college. A World War II Army Air Corps veteran, he served in the European Theater. He also was an airplane mechanics instructor. He worked at Sweeney Cleaners, Wyne Brothers Furniture and Thompson and Andrews Insurance and Real Estate, which later became Sears & Pumo Insurance and Real Estate Agency, where he became a partner and owner before retiring. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Macomb, where he was a deacon. He was a member of the Macomb Elks Lodge No. 1009. He served as Grand Exalted Ruler of the Elks and earned numerous awards at both state and national levels. He also was a member of the Rotary Club for 3 years and of Masonic Lodge No. 17 in Macomb, the Scottish Rite Bodies in Quincy, and American Legion No. 6 in Macomb. He was active with the Macomb Community Chest, American Cancer Society, the PTA and the Macomb Chamber of Commerce. He organized the Macomb Independent Insurance Agents Association and the McDonough County Multiple Listing Real Estate Service.

Funeral services were held Tuesday at his church with Rev. Kenneth Mortonson officiating. Burial was in Oakwood Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Elks National Foundation for Scholarships.

Dodsworth-Piper-Wallen Funeral Home in Macomb was in charge of arrangements.
