Harry Smith Dies At Age 83

Harry "Gene" Smith, 83, of Lewistown, formerly of rural Ipava, died at 5:20 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 30, 1987, at Mason District Hospital in Havana.

He was born Sept. 21, 1903 near Canton, a son of Benjamin Clayton and Clara Belle Rumsey Smith. He married Lola Arnett Dec. 19, 1926 in Canton. She survives.

Also surviving are one son, Robert E. Smith of Lewistown; a granddaughter; two great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Louise Cooper of Astoria, Josephine Gorsuch of Winchester and Irene Griffin of Canton.

Mr. Smith was a retired farmer and a former Fulton County supervisor of Isabelle Township. He was a member of the Fulton County Farm Bureau.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Tuesday morning at Shawgo Memorial Home in Ipava with Rev. Corrina Nation officiating. Burial was in Mt. Pleasant (Apple) Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Alzheimer's Disease and Related Disorders Association or the Lewistown First Presbyterian Church.
