VeteranWilbur Stewart Of East Peoria Dies

Wilbur G. Stewart, 73, of 205 Twin Oaks Court, East Peoria, died at 11:05 a.m. Saturday, July 5, 1986, at Methodist Medical Center.

He was born Aug. 29, 1913, in LaHarpe, the son of Archibald and Mary Kirby Stewart. He married B. Louise Bollinger on Aug. 30, 1932, in Carthage. She survives.

Also surviving are one son, Bobby Stewart; six daughters, Mrs. Lou (Patty) Whittenberg of Chesterfield, Mo., Mrs. Harold (Bernadeen) Bennett of Durand, Mrs. Jimmie (Phyllis) Miles of East Peoria, Mrs. Eugene (Sharon) LaHood of East Peoria, Mrs. Raymond (Connie) Bridges of Metamora and Mrs. Donnie (Carol) Booker of Peoria; two sisters, Mrs. Clarence (Meda) Jones and Mrs. Howard (Lucille) Coffman, both of Carthage; three brothers, Palmer Stewart of Ketchikan, Alaska, Donald Stewart and Glynon Stewart, both of LaHarpe; 26 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two sisters and six brothers.

He was a restaurant manager and owner in the Peoria area for 35 years, retiring Aug. 1, 1978.

He was an Army veteran of World War II and won the Purple Heart for his service. He belonged to Hilton Lodge 1143 AF&AM and Abbas Grotto in East Peoria.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Leroy Schmidt Memorial Chapel in East Peoria with Rev. Gaylord Buss officiating.
