Funeral services were conducted Saturday afternoon in the Shawgo Memorial Home by the Rev. Lee Carter Maynard for Joseph William Stephens, 80, of Kewanee, a resident of Astoria most of his life. He died unexpectedly Thursday in Public Hospital in Kewanee where he had been admitted a few hours previously.
Mr. Stephens was born on Oct. 5, 1879 in Bushnell, a son of William and Mary Welker Stephens. He was married on Nov. 25, 1903 to Rose Horton who died in 1955.
Several nieces and nephews in this area survive.
The body was placed in the Memorial Mausoleum in the Astoria cemetery.
