Astoria Relatives Informed Of Death Of Byron Stauffer

Relatives in this vicinity have been informed of the death about 9 p.m. Thursday in Peoria of Byron Stauffer, 74, of Peoria.

Born Aug. 5, 1885, in Bader, he moved to Peoria in 1905, where he was a street car conductor for 19 years prior to retiring nine years ago. He was a graduate of Kennedy Normal College at Rushville.

Mr. Stauffer was a member of the Arcadia Avenue Presbyterian church in Peoria and of Division 316 Amalgamated Association of Railway and Motor Coach Employees.

A son of Seth and Lavina (Shaffer) Stauffer, he was married on Jan. 10, 1906 in Bader, to Mayme Beck, who survives.

Other survivors are two sons, Merle Stauffer of East Peoria, and Oprin, of Des Plaines; a daughter, Mrs. Margaret Nixon; four brothers, Harvey and Harry, both of Astoria, Pius of Beardstown and Raymond of Santa Ana, Calif.; two sisters, Mrs. Dolla Venters, Astoria and Mrs. Carrie Fordyce, Vermont; six grandchildren and a great-grandchild. Also several nieces and nephews reside in this area.

Funeral services were conducted at 2:30 p.m. Saturday in the Wilton Mortuary, by the Rev. E. L. Fernandez, pastor of the Arcadia Avenue church.

Burial was in Swan Lake cemetery at Peoria.
