A Rockford woman was fatally injured and five other persons were injured, one of them, the dead woman’s husband, critically early Sunday morning in a collision of two automobiles on Route 9, just east of the Canton city limits.
Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Snowden, 43, died in the Graham hospital, Canton, about two hours after the accident which occurred at 1:20 a.m.
The injured: John Snowden, Rockford; Harold Lyons, Canton municipal street superintendent, his wife Helen, Mrs. Gladys Samaritan, Rockford, and Alva Pollitt, Canton, driver of the second car involved in the crash. Lyons was the driver of the other car. Joseph Samaritan, a passenger in the Lyons car, was uninjured.
The accident occurred, according to a police court, when Lyons backed his car onto the pavement from a parking space while rain was falling. Pollitt said he did not see the car until too late to avert a collision.
