WILBUR SMITH

Son Murdered

IPAVA — A letter was received by Mr. and Mrs. Elzie Smith from Mr. and Mrs. Joe Smith, who formerly lived in Ipava, but now of Centralia, Wash., telling of the brutal murder of their son Wilbur. He was killed Aug. 7 in bed in his room in the Y.M.C.A. building at Sacramento, Calif. He was found about 3 a.m. and had been tied, gagged and beaten to death. Mr. Smith had been in a veterans hospital in Topeka, Kans., since last February and was released from there and was going home to visit his parents, stopping in California enroute. The authorities at Sacramento have placed his former wife and a man she had lived with in jail pending investigation.
