MARY ELIZABETH “MOLLIE” SIMERAL

Last Sad Rites Held For Miss Simeral

Mary Elizabeth Simeral, daughter of Allen and Elizabeth Simeral was born in Adams County, Ohio, Feb. 2, 1868, and departed this life from her home in Astoria, Ill., July 1, 1930 aged 62 years, 4 months and 29 days.

When about 15 years of age she accepted a position in a Children’s Home, where she remained in faithful and efficient service until about 21 years ago when she came to Astoria to care for her aged mother. During that 21 years she has indeed been a faithful companion and a constant blessing to her mother. Always mindful of her every need and ready always to make whatever sacrifice needed to supply that need if at all within her power.

About twenty years ago, shortly after coming to Illinois, she was converted and united with the United Brethren church of Astoria under the pastorate of Rev. Ella Niswonger. She became a very earnest worker and supporter of the church and proved a very consistent faithful Christian and member of the church until God called her to membership in the Church Triumphant.

For a number of years she was a teacher in the Sunday school. Very faithful in attendance to all the services of the church, and a most earnest worker in the Women’s Missionary Association. For a number of years she was treasurer of the association, thank offering secretary for two years and a great student of the work.

It has been said by the president of the association that she believed Miss Simeral knew more about the Missionary work than any member in it. So great was her interest in the work. When sister Mollie was absent from a service we knew there was a reason and not an excuse. The church has lost a valuable worker.

She leaves to mourn her departure the aged mother who is now in her 90th year, three brothers, George Simeral of Ukiah, Calif., Allen Simeral of Adair, Ill., and William Simeral of Turlock, Calif., three sisters, Florence Davis of Browning, Ill., Margaret Ashcraft of Ray, Ill., and Clara Sharp of Peoria, Ill., and a host of other relatives and friends.

In her going the town has lost a valuable citizen, the church a very earnest member, the brothers and sisters a kind and loving sistesr and the mother a dutiful, faithful daughter. While our loss is great, we take comfort in the fact that our loss is her hers and Heaven’s eternal gain.

Funeral services were held at the United Brethren church Thursday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. by the pastor Rev. W. R. Seitzinger, assisted by Rev. Fred Thompson and interment in the Oak Grove cemetery.
