Mrs. W. Swearingen Answers Summons Funeral Monday

Mrs. Ella Swearingen, wife of William Swearingen, died at her home in Astoria on Friday, aged 68 years and 26 days. Her death was due to heart trouble.

Mrs. Swearingen was well known in this community, having lived in Astoria for many years. She was a member of the Christian church and was ever devoted to her family and her friends. She was also a member of the Royal Neighbors lodge.

Mrs. Swearingen was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Severns. She was born in Kerton township, Dec. 28, 1861. In 1879 she was united in marriage to William Swearingen and to this union nine children were born, eight of whom survive together with their father. They are: Bert, of Chicago; Milo, of Hot Springs, South Dakota; Mrs. Nell Oliphant, of Chicago; Edward, of Mobridge, South Dakota; Glenn, of Beardstown, Ill.; Florine, of Milwaukee, Wis.; Winter, of Springfield, Ill.; and Toler, of Los Angeles, California.

She is also survived by one brother, Clarence Severns of Astoria, and five grandchildren.

Mrs. Swearingen, with her husband, came to Astoria in 1885 where she since made her home.

Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at two o’clock at the Christian church, conducted by the pastor, Rev. W. T. Nichols. Interment in the Astoria cemetery.
