WILLIAM T. STATLER

William T. Statler

William T. Statler, son of James and Hulda (Harris) Statler, was born near Good Hope, Ill., on Sept. 9th, 1873 and passed away at a hospital in Indianapolis, Ind., on Jan. 1st, aged 56 years, 3 months and 23 days.

On January 12th, 1897 he was united in marriage to Miss Gladys Cruzer of Good Hope, and to them one son, George Cruzer Statler, was born, who passed away in infancy — the wife following a month later, and on July 25th, 1898 she was called to rest.

On April 29th, 1903, he was united in marriage to Miss Ora Robertson of Astoria, Illinois. Most of their married life being spent in Indiana, having lived in St. Bernice, Terre Haute and Indianapolis.

Mr. Statler followed the occupation of railroading. He was employed on the New York Central, Belt R. R. at Indianapolis, also the Southeastern at Terre Haute, where he was injured in a wreck on Dec. 17, 1917, from which he never fully recovered and was finally the cause of his death.

Through twelve long years of agony and unspeakable suffering, he never made a complaint, but always tried to look on the bright side and being of an optimistic nature and cheerful disposition, he he hid his misery by trying to make others happy.

The surviving relatives are his wife, Mrs. Ora Statler, Indianapolis, Ind.; two sisters, Mrs. Emma Sapp, Macomb, Ill.; Mrs. Maria Preston, Arnold, Kansas; two brothers, Chas. and Samuel Statler of Macomb, Ill.; one half brother, Hershel Statler, Peoria, Illinois.

Wm. T. Statler Buried Here Last Sunday Afternoon

William T. Statler, aged 56 years, of 720 N. East street, Indianapolis, Ind., passed away at the City Hospital there, on Wednesday, January […illegible … film scratched] at seven o’clock in the evening.

The body was brought to Astoria Saturday, accompanied by the widow, Ora (Robertson) Statler and on Sunday afternoon at two o’clock funeral services were held at the Methodist church in this city, being conducted by the pastor, Rev. Wm. H. Day. The body was laid to rest in the Astoria cemetery.

Mrs. Statler is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas W. Robertson, former residents of Astoria. She is an aunt of Dayle Bucy of this city and together, she and her husband have visited here on several occasions, making many acquaintances.
