Swearingen

Isabelle Swartz daughter of James and Malinda Swartz was born in Vermont, Ill., July 25, 1853 where she grew to womanhood and attended school. June 16, 1881 she was united in marriage to Wm. Swearingen of the Wetzel neighborhood west of Table Grove and where they spend their entire married life. Two children were born to them, Mrs. Hattie Elwell who resides on the homestead and George of Table Grove. Death came to the home about nine years ago and took away the husband, about five years ago she purchased a home in Table Grove to which she moved soon after and where she resided until her death, which occurred at 10 a.m., Thursday, April 15, 1920.

Her health had been failing about year but rapidly since about the first of February. At the time she took sick she was visiting relatives in Iowa and came home much weakened by the journey from which she never rallied but constantly failed to the last.

At about twenty years of age she was converted and united with the Christian church in Vermont. After her marriage she moved her membership to the New Salem church located at the corner of their home farm. Upon moving to Table Grove, she moved her membership there. At all times Mrs. Swearingen was a consistent christian ever doing her duty toward the church to which she belonged.

Besides her children she is survived by two grandchildren, Gwendolen Elwell and Verle Swearingen, four brothers, George of Lanark, Ill., Wm. of Astoria, Ill., Madison and Henry of Rexburg, Idaho, two sisters, Mrs. Eva Hesson of Salida, Colorado, and Mrs. Emma Bazter of Aberdeen, Washington, one brother, Albert formerly of Pekin, Ill., passed away in 1913 and two sisters Margaret and Jane who died in infancy.

Deceased was a noble wife and mother, a kind friend and neighbor and was loved by all who knew her.

Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon, April 17, at 2 o’clock at the Christian church in Table Grove conducted by Rev. J. W. Hiett of St. Augustine, interment was made in the family lot in the Vermont cemetery.
