MICHAEL STAMBAUGH

Mich’l Stambaugh Passed Away

Micheal Stambaugh, an aged and highly respected citizen, died Friday night at 11 o’clock p.m., at his home in Astoria. Death was due to paralysis from which he suffered much. He was aged 68 years, 3 months and 16 days.

The deceased was born Dec. 3, 1851, in Fulton County, Ill., 4 miles south west of Astoria, where he was reared to manhood on the farm and has been a resident of this community ever since.

March the 28th, 1872 he was united in marriage to Miss Sarah A. Bair and to this union were born six children, namely: Mrs. Jacob Ziegler and Mrs. Chas. Walraven of Huron, South Dakota, Benjamin Franklin, of Wichita, Kans., Geo. Henry, of Summum, Mrs. Jacob Etter and Ralph Clayton of Astoria, besides the named children he leaves to mourn his death his aged wife, two sisters, Mrs. Manuel Bricker of Summum and Mrs. Nancy Ebbert of Browning, also a number of other relatives and friends.

He united with the Church of the Brethren in the autumn of 1904 and has since lived a devoted christian life. He was a dutiful and care loving husband and father, always sincere in what he knew to be right and just, always guarding the moral and spiritual welfare of his home and loved ones with a zealous care. This characteristic of earnest concern will live in the hearts of those nearest and dearest to him and all who knew him. Sweet will be the memory of home ties and the family alter, till we meet with him in a home where sorrow and care are not known.

A precious one from us has gone,
A voice we loved is stilled,
A place is vacant in our home,
Which never can be filled;
God in his wisdom has recalled
The boon his love had given
And though the body slumbers here
The soul is safe in Heaven.

Funeral services were held at the Church of the Brethren, at 2 o’clock Tuesday, conducted by Elder J. W. Lear of Chicago assisted by Elder S. S. Blough. Burial in the Woodland cemetery.
