Nicholas Schroder

VERMONT — Nicholas Schroder was born near Hanover, Germany, in 1826, died in Las Vegas, New Mexico, January 1, 1920, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. John Danner. His age was 93 years. He was 12 years old when he came to this country with his mother and two brothers, in 1838. After a brief stay in New York the family came to Schuyler Co., and settled there in 1839. It was in 1850 that he was attracted to California and having made the long and perilous journey successfully, he there engaged in mining for several years. Returning to Illinois, he settled in McDonough Co., and remained there five years. He was married in 1858 to Lucinda Phillips, a daughter of Samuel and Amy Phillips. To them were born one son and two daughters, Samuel M., deceased and Amy Ann, wife of John Danner of Las Vegas, N. M. and Ada L., wife of Robert Robison of Augusta, Ill. His wife passed away in 1896. The funeral services were held from the Christian church Tuesday at 1:30 p.m., Fred Wilson officiating. Interment in the Vermont cemetery.
