Thomas Salisbury

ASTORIA — Thomas Salisbury, one of the oldest settlers of this locality, died at his home in this city on Thursday, September 25th. His age was 76 years, 5 months and days. He was born in Tennessee and from there in an early day moved to Indiana. In 1829 he entered a homestead in Woodland township and since that time he had resided there and in Astoria. For ten years or more he has been afflicted with blindness. To him and his wife Ester, eleven children were born. The wife and eight children survive, namely: James Irvin, Astoria; Riley, Hickory township, Schuyler county; Wash, Cuba; Julia Ann McKinley, Table Grove; Jane Kimble, Ipava; Mariah Bias, Red Oak, Iowa; Hannah Bias, Woodland township; Ida May Heidenrich, Astoria. The couple had been married over 50 years. The funeral occured Friday and the burial took place at the Thompson cemetery in Schuyler county on the Lafe Severns farm.
