Henry Stauffer was born in York county, Pennsylvania, May 24, 1826, and died at his home in Astoria, May 5, 1900, at the age of 73 years, 11 months and 11 days. He was married in Pennsylvania to Miss Nancy Donson and with his wife and family came to Illinois some thirty-five years ago, settling on a farm near Baders where they resided until about four years ago when they came to Astoria. Mr. Stauffer was the father of thirteen children, six of whom, with the mother, survive him. They are as follows: Mrs. Dave Danner, Mrs. Conrad Worley, Mrs. Jake Hamm, Seth, Sam, Will and John Stauffer, all living near Astoria. Mr. Stauffer was a faithful member of the Duncard church and a man loved and respected by all who knew him. He had been in poor health for a number of years, suffering from a complication of diseases, and for the past two years has been unable to leave his home. During all his sickness he was very patient, ever willing to obey the summons of the Master over to a higher and better home. Funeral services were held Sunday, May 6, at Woodland church, conducted by Joseph Hollinger, and interment made in Woodland cemetery.
