MARY SELLERS

A Mother’s Love.

Mrs. Mary Sellers and her babe, 14 months old, were found dead in a cistern near Rushville, Ill., last week. The baby was drowned and the mother, who was but 20 years old, had died from exposure. They were in the cistern eight hours before discovery. The babe fell into the cistern and the mother went to its rescue. The water was 18 inches deep, and with the babe in her arms the mother attempted to scale the sides. When found her finger and toe nails were torn away and her hands cut to the bone. The husband was away from home all day and did not succeed in finding the bodies of his wife and child until late in the evening, when neighbors went out to search for her.
