Andrew Sutherland

BLUFF CITY — Andrew Newton Sutherland, son of D. S. Sutherland, was born Oct. 30, 1876 and died Jan. 13, 1900, at the home of Mrs. Nancy Prentice of this place. He has been a constant sufferer for several years and peacefully passed from this life of suffering to the home where sickness is not known. He was conscious death was near and gave evidence that he was ready to depart and be with his Savior, in whom he has trusted since early boyhood. He united with the Christian church when only 11 years of age and lived a faithful member until death. We would say to the mourning friends, weep not as those who have no hope, but live so as to meet Newt where there will be no more death. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. Joseph Dobbs, of Pleasant Plaines, at the house of Aunt Nancy Prentice to a large and attentive congregation that were very much impressed by the services, as they were full of consolation to the bereaved and warning to the careless. After the funeral Mr. Sutherland started on a long and lonesome trip to Indiana where the remains will be buried with the rest of the departed family.
