JESSE V. SHIELDS

Died, at his home in Lewistown Thursday, March 1st, 1894, Jesse V. Shields, aged eighty years.

Jesse V. Shields was a native of Harrison county, Indiana, where he was born in 1814. During the autumn of 1828 he accompanied his mother and two brothers to Illinois, locating in Schuyler county; in 1829 they settled in Woodland township where Jesse remained for many years, afterwards moving to Lewistown where he died. In 1836 he was married to Miss Rebecca Miner, of Indiana, by whom he had thirteen children, eight of whom survive him. Mr. Shields enlisted as a soldier in the Civil war and fought for the Union. He was a brave, christian man, and one of Woodland township’s earliest settlers. The remains were interred near the old home place in Woodland township Friday, March 2nd.
