He was born May 13, 1939, in Chandlerville, a son of Thomas and Nancy Bauser Richards. He married Shirley Jean Shaw Danner on Aug. 2, 1990, in Hannibal, Mo. She survives.
Also surviving are three daughters, Pam (and Kent) Hoots of Quincy, Linda (and Bryan) Johnson of Jacksonville and Jody (and Eric) Moore of Beardstown; one son, Doug (and Diane Meyer) Richards of Mount Olive, N.C.; one stepdaughter, Debbie Pherigo of Browning; one brother, Alfred (and Janet) Richards of Beardstown; 12 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; six step great-grandchildren; and three step great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two sons, Michael and Marty Richards; one stepson, Gene Danner; one brother, Ronald Lee Richards; two sisters, Alice Bettis and Geneva Taylor.
He worked in the Sanitation Department for Oscar Mayer in Beardstown and later in the Livestock Division for Excel in Beardstown, retiring in September, 2004. He also farmed.
Private family services will be held with Pastor Matthew Thiner officiating. Burial will be at Astoria Cemetery. Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria is in charge of arrangements.
