Sarah Roddis

Sarah Evelyn Roddis, 94, of Ipava died at 7:55 p.m. Nov. 20, 2019, at the Clayberg Fulton County Nursing Center after battling the effects of a stroke for the past five years.

She was born Aug. 17, 1925, near Smithfield, the daughter of Ned Taylor and Doris Catherine Howarter Gray. She married Phil Roddis on Nov. 30, 1943. He preceded her in death on Jan. 15, 2010.

She also was preceded in death by one brother, Robert Taylor Gray.

Surviving are one son, Robert Dean (and Sandy) Roddis of Ipava; one grandson, Bo Roddis of Asheville, N.C.; one granddaughter, Sarah Roddis of Table Grove; and five immediate nephews and nieces.

She was a graduate of Cuba High School. Following high school, she worked various secretarial jobs, including the National Guard at Camp Ellis in Ipava.

She and her husband made their home of nearly 67 years on the family farm until Phil’s passing. She was a homemaker, and worked alongside her husband with the farm duties.

A graveside service was held Tuesday in the Ipava Cemetery with Pastor Doug Krukewitt officiating. Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria was in charge of arrangements.
