Victor RunkleVictor Wayne Runkle, 93, of Springfield, formerly of rural Schuyler County, died at 6:45 p.m. Jan. 18, 2019, in Springfield Heritage Hospice.

He was born Aug. 22, 1925, in Littleton Township, Schuyler County, a son of Floyd and Mary Wells Runkle. He married Shirley Jane Hillyer on Oct. 16, 1945, in Rushville. She preceded him in death on Feb. 15, 2015.

He also was preceded in death by seven siblings, Margaret Young, Vernon Runkle, Harold Runkle, Helen Royer, Ralph Runkle, Bobby Runkle and Betty Stratton.

Surviving are four children, Dan (and Debra) Runkle of Dubuque, Iowa, Joan (and Richard) Runkle Hulet of Port Charlotte, Fla., Ken (and Lisa) Runkle of Springfield and Amy (and Randy) Runkle Mercer of Lexington, N.C.; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He was a graduate of Littleton High School. He played semi-pro baseball and fast-pitch softball and is a member of the Schuyler County Fast-Pitch Hall of Fame.

He was a life-long Schuyler County farmer. He and Shirley retired to Springfield in 2010. He volunteered with food drives and dinners at Springfield Kumler Outreach Center.

Funeral services were held Tuesday at Worthington Funeral Home in Rushville with Rev. Don Goodenow and Rev. Bob Dykman officiating. Burial was in Littleton Cemetery.
