She was born Nov. 8, 1928, in Fairview, a daughter of Ralph and Clara Tharp Harkless. She married Robert Rice on May 2, 1948, in Rushville. He preceded her in death on Sept. 30, 2014.
She also was preceded in death by one sister, Ruth Miles; and two brothers, Carl Harkless and Clyde Harkless.
Surviving are one son, Robert (and Connie) Rice Jr. of Savannah, Ga.; one daughter, Cindy (and Kent) Paisley of Rushville; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
She was a deputy city clerk and then served as city clerk for 12 years, until retiring in 1983. After retiring, she served as Rushville’s first Alderwoman from 1984-88. She raced go-karts with her husband Bob in Lady Kart Racing in the late 1950s and early 1960s and was a member of the Schuyler Karting Club. She also was a member of Schuyler American Legion Auxiliary Unit 4 where she was a past president.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Worthington Funeral Home in Rushville with Mr. David Haney officiating. Burial will follow in Rushville City Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
