He was born May 4, 1944, in Cass County, Illinois, a son of William Arthur and Alberta Marie Sweatman Ring. He married Elizabeth Jan Carnahan on July 19, 1964, in Beardstown. She preceded him in death on Nov. 8, 2006.
Surviving are two daughters, Lisa (and Pete) Dupoy of Rushville and Wendy (and Rob) Baker of Camden; three brothers, Charles (and Barbara) Ring of Virginia, Dale (and Vickie) Ring of Rushville and Wayne (and Marilyn) Ring of Springfield; several nieces and nephews; special friend Janet Trone; and four grandchildren.
A 1962 graduate of Virginia High School, he attended a technical school in St. Louis after high school.
From 1963 to 1969, he worked at Tillitt's Auto Body, Bader Auto Body and Flower's Auto Body. In 1969, he began working with his father at Arthur Ring and Sons. He and his brothers Dale and Wayne assumed management of the business in 1980. He was primarily responsible for the parts department.
Services were held Tuesday at Wood Funeral Home in Rushville with Reverend John Sowers officiating. Burial was in Beardstown City Cemetery.
