Doris RockwellDoris Maxine Rockwell, 85, of Quincy, formerly of Rushville died at midnight Feb. 9, 2009, at Blessing Hospital in Quincy.

She was born Aug. 3, 1923, in Rushville, a daughter of Murlen Walter and Mary Virginia Phillips Croxton. She married Ernest Evan Rockwell on Aug. 10, 1940, in Palmyra, Mo. He died Dec. 5, 1971.

She also was preceded in death by two daughters, Joyce Lisenbee and Judith Ann Leatherdale; three grandchildren, Andrew and Adria Lisenbee and Josepha Rockwell; two brothers, Richard Lloyd and Merlen Eugene Croxton; and four sisters, Pauline Toland, Helen June Payne, Alice Zaborac and Nancy Croxton.

Surviving are four sons, Garry Evan (and Catherine) Rockwell of Rushville, Jack Leon (and Sharon) Rockwell of Parigold, Ark., Jerry Lee (and Bear) Rockwell of Warrensville, Mo., and Erlin Eugene Rockwell of Beardstown; three daughters, Reita May (and Richard) Klauser of Mendon, Juanita Kay (and Ronald) Hultz of LaGrange, Mo., and Marsha Gail (and Steven) Grotz of Quincy; four sisters, Dora Grace Miller and Donna Boyd, both of Rushville and Gloria Keller and Marylan Johnson, both of Macomb; 25 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren.

She was a nurse’s aid at Snyder’s Vaughn-Haven Nursing Home in Rushville and Sunset Home in Quincy. She later was a cook for St. Mary’s rectory, retiring in 1995.

Services were held Friday at Wood Funeral Home in Rushville with Pastor Mike Cahill officiating. Burial was in Rushville City Cemetery.
