EDWARD CHARLES “SONNY” RHOADES

Edward C. "Sonny" Rhoades, 71, of Browning died at 12:11 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2002, at his home.

He was born Oct. 30, 1930, in Sheldons Grove, the son of Lawrence and Eda F. Smith Rhoades.

Surviving are two daughters, Dixie (and Steve) Hall of Chapin and Shelly (and Don) Rahn of Wood River; two sons, Allan of Sturtevant, Wis., and Donnie of Greenview; nine grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and three sisters, Dessie Zingher of Rushville, Ethel (and Harold) Nesselroad of Citrus Springs, Fla., and Ruth Humphrey of Florida.

A Korean War Army veteran, he was a member of Rushville American Legion Post 4.

He was a welder for Peabody Coal Co. and worked at Coal Creek Drainage for 20 years.

He was a member of the National Rifle Assn. and Ducks Unlimited.

Services were held Friday at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria with Rev. Cliff Parry officiating. Burial was in Sheldons Grove Cemetery, where military rites were accorded by his American Legion post.

Memorials may be made to the American Society for the Prevention of Blindness.
