James L. "Pat" Riley, 86, of Pekin, formerly of Canton, died at 8:18 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 8, 2000, at Hallmark House Nursing Center in Pekin.

He was born Aug. 17, 1914, in Vermont, a son of Charles and Olive Middleton Riley. He married Mildred M. Graves on March 21, 1942, in Canton. She died March 17, 1985.

Two brothers and one sister also preceded him in death.

Surviving are one daughter, Linda (and Roy) Clark of Pekin; one brother, Raymond of Rock Island; two grandchildren; and one great-grandson.

A World War II Army Air Force veteran, he was a member of American Legion Post 16.

He was an assembler at International Harvester Co. in Canton, retiring in 1975.

He was a member and past exalted ruler of Canton Elks Lodge 626. He also was a member of Morning Star Masonic Lodge 734, AF&AM, in Canton and the Peoria Consistory.

Services were held today at 1:30 p.m. at Oaks-Hines Funeral Home in Canton with Rev. Terry Edele officiating. Burial was in Greenwood Cemetery, where military rites were accorded.

Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.
