Donna Ryan Of Macomb Dies

Donna Henkle Ryan, 92, of Macomb, died at 2:45 a.m. Monday, Dec. 3, 1990, in McDonough District Hospital.

She was born Aug. 24, 1898 in Vermont, a daughter of Edward and Abbe (Kirkbride) Harvey. She first married Charles B. Draper in 1917. She later married Newt Henkle in 1944. He died in 1956. She then married Ben Ryan Oct. 12, 1965. He died in 1984.

Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Sid (Virginia) Fluegel of Macomb; and one grandson.

She was preceded in death by one sister, Melba Boozell.

Mrs. Ryan had lived in Lewistown and was a graduate of Lewistown High School and Western Illinois Teachers College in Macomb. She was a secretary for 17 years to W. P. Morgan, one-time president of WIU.

In January 1950 she and her husband opened Henkle’s Ladies Wear on the north side of the square. She retired in 1964. The store was operated by her daughter until it closed in 1984.

She had resided in Macomb most of her life except for 1965-1984 when she resided in East Moline. She had resided at Wesley Village since 1984.

Mrs. Ryan was a member of Macomb First Presbyterian Church, Order of Eastern Star, Altrusa Club of Macomb, Presbyterian Women of First Presbyterian Church and the Macomb Country Club.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. today in Oakwood Cemetery with Rev. Cheryl Colt officiating. Dodsworth-Piper-Wallen Funeral Home was in charge.

Memorials may be made to the Wesley Village Health Care staff.
