VeteranCharles Rowland Of Arizona Dies

Charles E. Rowland, 64, of Avondale, Ariz., formerly of Peoria, died at 2:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 13, 1990, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Phoenix, Ariz.

He was born Feb. 9, 1926, in Astoria, a son of Isaac C. and Frances Derry Rowland. He married Doris Polson in 1947 in Peoria. She survives.

Also surviving are one son, Neil of Riverside, Calif.; five daughters, Denise Boyle and Sabrina Rowland, both of Burlington, Iowa, Rita Johnson of Goodyear, Ariz., Spring Rowland of Avondale and Sue Elliott of East Peoria; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and four sisters, Florence Overend of Daytona Beach, Fla., Annabelle Thompson of Bullhead City, Ariz., Beverly Davis of Robinson and Eleanor DeMay of Orion.

He was preceded in death by one brother and one sister.

He was a World War II Navy veteran and a Korean War Marine Corps veteran. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Pekin and Peoria Moose Lodge. He worked for Caterpillar Inc. in Mapleton for 39 years, retiring as an inspector in 1984.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Friday at Schmidt-Haller Funeral Parlors in East Peoria with Rev. Jamie Milam officiating. Burial was in Swan Lake Memorial Gardens.
