Rhodes D. Rankin Former Astoria Resident Dies

Vermont Union — Rhodes D. Rankin passed away in a Santa Ana California hospital at 5:40 Saturday morning following a paralytic stroke. Mr. Rankin was over 80 years of age and had been failing in health for the past six months.

Although he had made California his home for several years, he was nearly a lifelong resident in or near Vermont. His body will be brought here for burial and will arrive Tuesday night or Wednesday. Funeral services have not been completed but it is expected the funeral will be held Wednesday or Thursday.

He leaves to mourn his death eight children: Mrs. Ella Easley, Fred, James and Ed of Vermont, Mrs. Mable Kirkbride of Springfield, Henry Rankin of Fairfield, Iowa, Ghlee and Earl Rankin of Santa Ana, Calif.

Mr. Rankin at one time was a resident of Astoria. He owned the Astoria Hotel.
