REBECCA J. (BARNABY) RIPPETOE

A Mysterious Case Of Poisoning

RUSHVILLE, ILL., JULY 30 — A very mysterious case of poisoning occured in this city yesterday. While Robert Rippetoe and family were eating the noon meal Mr. Rippetoe was suddenly taken sick. A physician was summoned. While the doctor was caring for Mr. Rippetoe, Mrs. Rippetoe was also taken sick. Two more physicians were called and made every effort to revive them, but Mrs. Rippetoe died at 4 o’clock. Mr. Rippetoe is still alive and chances are favorable for his recovery. The physicians say that both of them were poisoned by strychnine, but it has not been determined who put the poison in the victuals.

Later developments implicate Mr. Rippetoe in the crime, and the coroner’s inquest will probably hold him for the death of his wife.
