Robert Reed

Died, at his home in Astoria, Ill., June 26, at 12:40 o'clock a.m., Robert Reed, aged seventy-one years, five months and fourteen days. Funeral services were held at the Methodist church, Wednesday, June 28, 1893 at 2 o'clock p.m., Rev. F. B. Madden officiating.

Robert Reed was born Jan. 13, 1822, at Tavistock, Devonshire, England, and married Miss Caroline Jones, of Cornwell, England, in 1846. In 1869 he emigrated from England to Cuba Islands, then to the United States where he settled with his family, first in Pennsylvania, afterward moving to Ohio, Iowa and Illinois. He came to Astoria in 1881 and resided here until the time of his death.

Mr. Reed was the father of ten children; the following eight survive him: Mrs. S. Brewer, Isle of Jersey, British Channel; Joseph B. Hamilton, Canada; Wm. R. and Mrs. Levina Brown, of Breeds; George, of Bryant; Mrs. Harry Green, of Canton; Mrs. McCarthy and Steve, of Astoria; all of whom but Mrs. Brewer attended the funeral. Prior to the time of the Chattsworth wreck Mr. Reed was a hale man, but at this disaster he rec'd internal injuries from which he never recovered. The funeral occurred from the Methodist church Wednesday, June 28, after which the remains were interred in the Astoria cemetery.
