Ruth Ellen Shaver Phillips, 90, of Rushville, died Oct. 1, 2024, surrounded by her family.
She was born Sept. 25, 1934, the daughter of Dwight and Gertrude Shaver. She was the youngest of five children. The Shaver children grew up on a farm west of Rushville. On Jan. 10, 1953, she married Marvin Phillips. He survives. Together they had three children, Danny (and Deb) Phillips of Rushville, Lynn (and Randy) Gorsuch of Peoria and Jill (and Bill) Trone of Beardstown.
Also surviving are three children, Danny, Lynn and Jill; seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by four brothers, Gene, Harold, John and Roy Shaver.
She dedicated her life to taking care of others, whether it was family, through her career as a nurse or the people she “adopted” and helped. Throughout her career she was a floor nurse, director of nursing, and a home health nurse. She taught piano lessons to many students and enjoyed playing the piano at church. She served on many boards during her life including her local church and the local hospital.
Funeral services were held Sunday at First United Methodist Church in Rushville with Rev. Stacy Tomich officiating. Burial was in Rushville City Cemetery.
